Musicians are small businesses too!
One of the members of All Our Exes Live in Texas (Katie Wighton) has written an article in response to an opinion piece written by Peter Strong on SMH.
In a nutshell, Strong has said that APRA AMCOS is a shadow regulator and that there is no transparency within the organization; meanwhile, Wighton has said APRA AMCOS is awesome and keeps musicians gong financially (Tweet about this). Should there be more transparency around APRA and how royalties are disseminated?
Marketing Your Event: Getting Gig Ready
Musicians are more than just musicians; and unfortunately, it’s not as easy as rocking up at a gig and have 100 people turn up.
Lots of hard work needs to go into marketing and promoting your event. This article was written by yours truly (Brendan, owner/operator of this site) of everything I consider when getting ready for a gig.
In a nutshell, the playing should be the easy part. Getting everything else done before the gig, and ensuring fans turn up, is another beast altogether.
At the time, I was preparing for a gig, and was trying to source bands to play on the line up. I was surprised that a band wrote back and said that they will “just play and whoever turns up, will turn up.” If you’re a muso, this one’s for you!
PledgeMusic in the Sh*t

An article I wrote recently was about how musicians can earn money this year from their craft. One of the things I mention is crowdfunding.
About a week later, PledgeMusic was all over the news; apparently, the company owes its artists thousands of dollars, and there is no sign if these funds will be delivered to them.
Not only that, but a key backer and stakeholder is being charged with fraud by the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), so it doesn’t sound like things will get any better any time soon.
There are other crowdfunding sites out there, so maybe look at them first before PledgeMusic. Let me know if you’ve had any bad experiences with PledgeMusic!
Calling All Original Artists!
Do you play in an original band and are about to release a single or album?
Send me your Press Kits, links to songs/videos and I will feature on the website.
I’m keen to hear original artists from all genres, located wherever!
I’ll include links to your music and can give your shows a plug too.
I’ve already had a couple of Press Releases land on my lap, and will aim to include them when I can!
If you want more info, or want to send me some things, hit me up on Facebook, or send a quick message here.
